Announcing Pictometry imagery now available on maps

A picture is worth a thousand words.

Have you ever heard of “oblique images?” Oblique imagery is captured at an angle to provide a more natural perspective, making objects easier to recognize and interpret. Images are captured from north, south, east and west directions to provide a 360-degree view of every property and parcel. Each pixel is georeferenced resulting in intelligent images for those who view and use them.

Why does this matter to you?

Now the Cullman Revenue Commissioner web site has Pictometry images on its GIS map viewer. Do you need to understand how a property is sized? Are you not quite sure if a home is two stories or one? Now you can view oblique images to tell you more about what you’re seeing in an aerial photograph. It’s so cool!

Get started on this website’s homepage:

  • Click on “Cullman GIS and Mapping.”
  • Click the “Online Mapping and GIS” link to launch the Cullman County Parcel Viewer.
  • Click on “I Agree” to the terms of use, and then “Go to Map.”
  • You’ll then be able to search parcels to see aerial views. To view the oblique image, click on “Search Tools,” which will launch the Pictometry viewer and add a “Pictometry” link to your view of clickable navigation options.
  • Once you have the parcel you’d like to view with oblique imagery, simply click the Pictometry tool,  click “Activate with map click,” and then click the parcel you’re viewing. A new window will launch to display the cool new imagery.

Check it out and let us know what you think.
