Announcing online personal property filing

Cullman Revenue Commissioner, Barry Willingham, recently announced an online filing system for all local business to file their annual business personal property renditions. To kick-off the new system, more than 3,200 emails were sent to area businesses with instructions on accessing the new system. Business may access the filing portal at personalprop.assurancegov.com.

As outlined in Title 40, Chapter 7 of the Code of Alabama 1975, as amended, all individuals, firms, or corporations that own business personal property in Alabama as of October 1 each year are required to report it. This includes any Alabama-based individual, firm, or corporation that purchases a permanent trailer tag for a tractor trailer, truck trailer, or semi-trailer, which must also be reported as personal property.

Businesses must provide a complete, itemized listing of all personal property owned as of October 1 to the local assessing official where the property is located. This list must be submitted between October 1 and December 31 each year to avoid penalties and should include a description of each property, its acquisition date, and its cost.
