**Attention aircraft owners in Cullman County**
On October 1, 2022, property tax assessment of aircraft in all Alabama counties was centralized to go through the Alabama Department of Revenue (ADOR) instead of through each respective county tax office.
This month, ADOR mailed out valuation notices to aircraft owners advising them of the 2023 market and taxable values. In the letters, the verbiage appears to suggest legal action. The header of the letters read “STATE OF ALABAMA VS. ” TAXPAYER NAME like a notification of a lawsuit might read.
Please be advised these are valuation notices only and NOT legal action notices. Aircraft owners have 30 days from the date of the letter (April 18) to appeal the stated values to the Alabama Tax Tribunal. The assessed value is used to calculate ad valorem taxes on the aircraft identified in each letter.
Instructions on appealing valuations are on the reverse of the letter from ADOR. Follow their instructions to contact them with any questions regarding your aircraft’s market and assessed values.
